Karol S. Robinson Joins Anderson Kill’s New York Office as a Shareholder

Anderson Kill P.C. is pleased to announce that Karol S. Robinson has joined the firm as a shareholder in its New York headquarters. Ms. Robinson practices in cooperative and condominium law with a focus on affordable housing, nonprofit organizations, real estate, financing and general transaction work.

Ms. Robinson has developed a hands-on, direct working relationship with the directors and agents for cooperative and condominium housing developments, including Mitchell-Lama developments and not-for-profit clients. She represents clientsin financing transactions as well advising on day-to-day operational and corporate governance matters, including compliance with federal, state, and city governmental housing agency regulations.

Ms. Robinson also has extensive negotiating refinancing transactions with banks and nontraditional lenders for both affordable housing and market-rate coop and condominium developments. In one notable transaction, she represented an affordable housing development in Queens that was severely damaged by Hurricane Sandy in its securing of $46.1 million in federal Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery Funds from the New York City Housing Development Corporation, the largest storm recovery block grant issued to date.

In her work on behalf of affordable housing clients, Ms. Robinson has developed close working relationships with the New York City Housing Development Corporation, the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development, and the New York State Housing Finance Agency. She also regularly attends and advises clients at Board of Director and shareholder meetings, negotiates and drafts commercial leases, construction contracts, and vendor agreements.

Ms. Robinson will be a member of Anderson Kill's Cooperative and Condominium Law Group, which serves as general counsel to the boards of directors and managers of numerous cooperatives, condominiums, and homeowners associations (HOA) throughout the New York metropolitan area. In June 2016 the boutique firm Rosen Livingston Cholst, known for its pioneering work and deep roots in this practice area, joined forces with Anderson Kill.

Ms. Robinson is co-chair of the American Bar Association's Community and Economic Development Committee of the Forum on Affordable Housing and Community Development Law, and a member of the New York City Bar Association Committee on Housing and Urban Development, as well as the Association of Black Women Attorneys. She has volunteered with New York Cares, the Fresh Air Fund, and the Lawyers Alliance for New York, a provider of pro bono business and transactional legal services for nonprofit organizations.

A member of the New York Bar, Ms. Robinson has court admissions in United States District Court, Southern District of New York; Eastern District of New York; and United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. She holds a J.D. from Rutgers School of Law – Newark and a B.A. from Vassar College.
