Saudi Arabia cannot escape claims that kingdom officials helped hijackers who carried out the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, a Manhattan federal judge ruled Thursday, finding that victims' families have adequately alleged their claims fall under an exception that waives the kingdom's sovereign immunity.

U.S. District Judge George B. Daniels, in a 45-page order, denied Saudi Arabia's renewed motion to be freed from the long-running multidistrict litigation brought by people who were directly injured or lost loved ones in the 9/11 attacks and are seeking damages, saying the plaintiffs have sufficiently alleged their claims fall under a Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act exception in the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act.
