Following the passage of Maryland’s Child Victims Act (“CVA”), which revived the statute of limitations for previously time-barred claims of sex abuse against minors, hundreds, if not thousands, of lawsuits have been filed against Maryland schools, school boards, municipalities, non-profit organizations, religious institutions and others. Often, claimants sue these institutions because they employed the alleged perpetrator, making any organization that had children in its care or custody a potential target.

Insurance policy proceeds are often the only source of funding for defending allegations of sexual abuse and compensating victims, so both plaintiffs and defendants have a vested interest in finding all available coverage.

The panel members will review these and other key issues.
