Luma S. Al-Shibib is a shareholder in the New York office of Anderson Kill. Luma focuses her practice on insurance recovery for corporate policyholders, with an emphasis on directors & officers liability insurance, comprehensive general liability insurance, and cyber liability insurance.  Luma also has a background in bankruptcy and has represented clients in bankruptcy cases involving insurance claims.   

Luma has represented a broad array of corporate clients, including Fortune 500 companies, in both litigation and pre-litigation matters. Luma’s recent representative engagements include: 

  • Representing a resorts and casino operator in connection with property damage and business interruption losses under cyber security and first party property policies. 
  • Representing a wealth management advisory firm in an action seeking D&O coverage for costs related to a federal securities investigation
  • Representing a corporate director in connection with a claim for D&O coverage related to a criminal action
  • Representing a retailer in connection with a claim for D&O coverage related to class action lawsuits
  • Representing an electronics manufacturer in an action against several of its CGL insurers concerning long tail environmental liability claims
  • Representing a general contractor in various actions related to insurance claims under builders risk policies, contractor controlled insurance program policies, and CGL policies
  • Representing corporate policyholders in cases involving broker liability

Luma is an active member of the firm's Insurance Recovery group and is involved in Anderson Kill’s Cyber Insurance Group. She is co-chair of Anderson Kill's Diversity Committee and involved in Anderson Kill’s Women's Network.

Ms. Al-Shibib is committed to public service, pursuing various local and international community projects in her personal time.  From 2010-2012, Ms. Al-Shibib served as a United States Peace Corps Volunteer to the Kalinago People in the Commonwealth of Dominica in the Eastern Caribbean, where, among other things, she worked on indigenous rights issues.  She also has volunteered with the International Rescue Committee in New York, working with the refugee resettlement unit, Habitat for Humanity in Chang Mai, Thailand, and New York Cares.
