Sam Braverman, a White Collar Defense Attorney with Deep Trial Experience, Joins Anderson Kill as a Shareholder

Anderson Kill is pleased to announce that Sam Braverman has joined the firm as a shareholder in New York and co-chair of the firm’s Government Enforcement, Internal Investigation and White Collar Defense Group.

Sam Braverman has been practicing law in trial and appellate courts for almost three decades and has conducted more than 100 trials as lead counsel. He represents individuals and corporate clients in complex and sensitive criminal and regulatory matters, focusing his practice on white collar criminal defense, including securities fraud, commercial bribery, honest services fraud, conspiracy, bank fraud, Stark violations, and tax litigation.

Sam has won acquittals in high profile cases, and he has represented clients in more than 40 state counties, 10 federal districts, and before investigative agencies such as FINRA, SEC, state medical boards, the Commission on Judicial Conduct, and Attorney disciplinary committees. He has won reversals on appeal at the New York State Court of Appeals, the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Supreme Court of the United States and he has won writs of habeas corpus in the SDNY.

Sam’s decades of work in white collar criminal defense include extensive experience in corporate internal investigations; FCPA and Anti-Bribery investigations; Title IX investigations; and pre-emptive criminal defense. He also provides strategic and tactical legal advice to small and growing companies and their executives. He is a trained mediator in commercial litigation and is often called in to negotiate, arbitrate, or mediate commercial or intra-corporate disputes. He has represented judges and prosecutors, board presidents and directors, doctors and lawyers, hedge fund managers and salesmen.

Sam has worked as a prosecutor, a law professor, and a public defender, and is a frequent lecturer for CLEs on trial practice around the country. He has been recognized since 2013 as a Super Lawyer in New York and New Jersey.  He holds a J.D. from Duke University School of Law and a B.A. from Dartmouth College.

Jeremy Shockett, co-chair of Anderson Kill’s White Collar Group, commented, “I have worked across the courtroom and the table from Sam for more than 20 years in both Federal and State Courts. He is a tenacious advocate, has immense jury appeal, and always is an impeccable litigator. Bringing Sam on board will widen the scope of our white collar practice and enhance our ability to help clients assess their risks when they commence litigation or otherwise subject themselves to heightened scrutiny. Sam has seen everything, knows the signs of vulnerability, and knows how to both forestall enforcement action and prosecution when possible and how to minimize the penalties and fallout when legal action goes forward.”

Robert M. Horkovich, Anderson Kill’s managing shareholder, added, “Sam is one of the most effective and respected white collar defense attorneys in the country. We are thrilled to have him on the team at Anderson Kill.”

Joining Anderson Kill’s White Collar Group in New York with Sam is Seán McCabe.  Seán’s areas of practice include white collar defense, federal criminal defense, and international commercial litigation. He has had a key role in trial preparation and legal research on federal criminal cases arising out of the Southern District of New York, including major white collar criminal cases, conspiracy, and RICO cases.
