  • June 4, 2024

Anderson Kill is pleased to announce that Jonathan Kortmansky and Douglas Curran, versatile commercial litigators with national practices, have joined the firm as shareholders in New York and co-chairs of the newly formed Financial Litigation & Complex Disputes practice group.  Jonathan and Douglas together have decades of experience advising clients in litigation involving complex financial instruments, investment vehicles, funding agreements, commercial contracts, and post-closing rights under M&A agreements, among others.  They are noted for their track record of navigating complicated and high-stakes disputes.

Jonathan Kortmansky has served as lead trial counsel in multiple complex financial disputes concerning securities, mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance and control, trusts and multi-national bankruptcy proceedings, among others. Jonathan’s clients include private equity and hedge funds, banks, public and closely held corporations as well as high net worth individuals.  He regularly advises senior management and boards of directors regarding litigation, business and regulatory risks; and strategy.

In addition to his broad-based complex commercial litigation experience, Jonathan has significant experience in the digital asset space representing clients in all facets from investor disputes and asset tracing to ICOs and bankruptcy and liquidation proceedings.

He has been selected for inclusion in Super Lawyers in New York since 2013 and has been recognized in multiple years by The Legal 500 United States. He is a member of the Federal-State Judicial Counsel for the Second Circuit Court of Appeals and a former president of the New York University School of Law Alumni Association. He holds a J.D., cum laude, from New York University School of Law and a B.A. from Indiana University, Bloomington.

Douglas Curran is a trial lawyer representing clients in complex commercial litigation, with a focus on high-stakes financial and business disputes. His clients include corporations and individuals across a variety of industries, including financial services, private equity, venture capital, cryptocurrency, and emergent technology.  As trial counsel for both plaintiffs and defendants, he has secured notable successes in cases involving bondholder disputes, post-closing M&A disputes, financial fraud, early-stage investment disputes, high-level corporate governance disputes, and trade-secret misappropriation.

Douglas also has substantial experience representing investors in digital assets, cryptocurrency companies, and other on-blockchain ventures. Among other things, he has had notable success enforcing investors’ rights under SAFT and SAFE investment agreements, and advancing crypto companies’ rights as creditors in insolvency proceedings.

Douglas has received a number of industry awards and recognitions. He was recognized by Law360 in 2023 as an under-40 Rising Star in the nationwide Trials category, by The American Lawyer in its 2022 Litigator of the Week series, and by The Daily Journal in its 2022 Top Verdicts list. He has been selected for inclusion in Super Lawyers in New York each year since 2016.

Prior to entering private practice, Douglas served as Law Clerk to the Honorable Susan H. Black, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. He holds a J.D., cum laude, from Duke University School of Law, where he was Articles Editor for the Duke Law Journal, and a B.S.F.S., cum laude, from Georgetown University, Walsh School of Foreign Service.

Robert M. Horkovich, Anderson Kill’s managing shareholder, said, “Jonathan and Douglas have both been highly successful representing claimants and defendants in complex, high-stakes litigation. They add major capabilities to our growing litigation practice and enable an intensified focus on high-value financial and investment litigation.  I’m delighted to welcome them to Anderson Kill.”
