  • January 24, 2022

Anderson Kill is proud to announce that Jeffrey E. Glen, a shareholder in the firm’s New York office, has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Legal Aid Society, the oldest and largest provider of legal aid in the United States and New York City’s primary legal services provider.

A litigator with more than 30 years’ experience, Jeffrey currently practices complex commercial, land use and insurance litigation, along with an extensive pro bono portfolio.  He is a designated Anderson Kill representative to Interleges, a consortium of law firms based in over 20 countries, where he was a member of the Executive Committee until Anderson Kill shareholder Joshua Gold became Interleges President in 2021.

Early in his career, Jeffrey was the Attorney in Charge of the Legal Aid Society’s Harlem Office, then the largest office in the Society’s Civil Division, and he has remained active with the Society ever since. His pro bono engagements have included representation of death row inmates in Florida and Alabama; representation of a psychiatric hospital patient who suffered assault; and representation of various tenants’ groups in New York City. He is Chair of Anderson Kill’s pro bono committee and a senior member of the firm’s diversity and training committees.

From 1979 through 1987, Jeffrey served as New York City’s Special Assistant Corporation Counsel in charge of the Tort, Administrative Law, and Affirmative Litigation divisions of the New York City Law Department. He managed the medical malpractice defense of the city's Health and Hospital Corporation, and led the litigation team which defeated over forty actions challenging the 42nd Street Redevelopment Project without a single loss.

After leaving Legal Aid, he joined the faculty of New York Law School, where he was the first Director of Clinical Legal Education and taught New York and Federal Practice.  He continues his teaching as an adjunct professor of New York Practice at the City University of New York Law School

Jeffrey currently serves on the Advisory Committee on Civil Practice of the Office of Court Administration of the State of New York.  That Committee prepares the annual legislative program of the state’s court system, subject to the decisions of the state’s Chief Administrative Judge,, and authors the official comments on many of the changes in the New York civil practice statutes and court rules.

Robert M. Horkovich, Anderson Kill’s managing shareholder, commented, “Jeff has long been a mentor and inspiration to our attorneys seeking to engage in meaningful pro bono representation, as well in complex litigation. We are delighted that he has brought Anderson Kill into the company of firms with board membership in the Legal Aid Society.”

“We are thrilled to welcome to our Board Jeffrey Glen, who is well versed in our work serving vulnerable New Yorkers on a myriad of issues,” said Janet Sabel, CEO and Attorney-In-Chief of The Legal Aid Society. “Now more than ever, as our city continues to grapple with the COVID-19 pandemic, racial injustice and other critical systemic issues, Jeffrey’s vast legal experience will help ensure that Legal Aid is equipped to continue our zealous advocacy through these difficult and uncertain times.”
