Anderson Kill's Insurance Recovery Group Named 2019 Legal Team of the Year by Business Insurance

03/26/2019

For the second consecutive year, Business Insurance has named Anderson Kill's Insurance Recovery Group the Legal Team of the Year in the publication's U.S. Insurance Awards. Winners were announced at an awards dinner in New York on March 21.

Finalists were selected by senior Business Insurance staff from more than 170 nominations. The winners were picked by a panel of 65 risk management professionals who independently assessed each of the nominated finalists.

Anderson Kill's insurance recovery team was reviewed on the basis of recent recoveries obtained for policyholders in trial and appellate courts. In 2018, the team won insurance coverage for municipal facilities and authorities, a mining company and a manufacturer in long-tail asbestos and environmental claims.

Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2019, Anderson Kill has been representing policyholders only in insurance coverage since the early 1980s, when firm founder Eugene R. Anderson won a series landmark decisions finding coverage for long-tail claims, validating foundational coverage theories and litigation techniques.

The firm since has been a staunch advocate for policyholder rights, recovering billions of dollars from insurance companies on behalf of clients ranging from Fortune 1000 companies to small and medium-sized businesses.

"We are honored to be recognized by Business Insurance's editorial team and the panel of 65 risk managers who made the final choice." said Robert M. Horkovich, Anderson Kill's managing shareholder and co-chair of the firm's Insurance Recovery Group. "This award belongs to every member of our insurance recovery team, which works tirelessly to obtain for policyholders the insurance coverage for which they paid."

Business Insurance's awards program was created in 2018 to help funding the BI Scholarship Endowment, designed to open new opportunities to provide scholarships, grants and programming at universities without risk management degree programs, including historically black colleges and universities.
