Finalists were selected by senior Business Insurance staff. The winners then were chosen by a panel of 80 risk management professionals who independently assessed each of the nominated finalists in each category. Recognizing that major achievements are seldom the work of individuals working in isolation, the awards honor teams of professionals.
Anderson Kill's insurance recovery team was reviewed on the basis of a series of recent victories for policyholders in trial and appellate courts in insurance litigation - winning insurance coverage for asbestos, environmental, professional liability and property damage/business interruption claims.
Anderson Kill has been representing policyholders only in insurance coverage since the early 1980s, when firm founder Eugene R. Anderson won a series landmark decisions finding coverage for long-tail claims, validating foundational coverage theories and litigation techniques. The firm since has been a staunch advocate for policyholder rights, fighting for recognition of coverage for insurance claims despite formidable insurance industry opposition. Anderson Kill has maintained a strong insurance recovery team with a national practice.
"I am so proud of every member of our insurance recovery team, which always has been and always will be dedicated to representing policyholders only in insurance coverage disputes," said Robert M. Horkovich, Anderson Kill's managing shareholder and co-chair of the firm's Insurance Recovery Group. "We are especially honored to have made the cut first with Business Insurance's editorial team and then with the panel of distinguished risk managers, who know what's involved in getting an insurance recovery on a complex claim."
The awards program was created to help funding the BI Scholarship Endowment, designed to open new opportunities to provide scholarships, grants and programming at universities without risk management degree programs, including historically black colleges and universities.
