In January, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy signed into law the state’s consumer data protection law, which will take effect on January 15, 2025 and provide added protections for consumers’ personal data.  The New Jersey privacy law will impact businesses in the state and those that target New Jersey residents, and will require important changes regarding how customers’ “sensitive data” is treated.  Requiring affirmative consent for any website that tracks geolocation data, personal data, or biometric data will require updates to company websites prior to the January 2025 effective date.  Because these new laws – in New Jersey and other states – will lead to potential liabilities for many businesses, companies must take stock now to understand these laws, and what steps should be taken to minimize risk including via insurance.  This webinar will cover the recently enacted New Jersey privacy law in detail, as well as its similarities and differences with privacy laws passed in other states; the webinar also will address the key court rulings to date under such privacy laws and the requirements for businesses to ensure compliance with them.
